Hi everyone. I am Cara and I am here for help and support for my mum.

mum underwent Grade 3 breast cancer surgery in November and is due to start chemo in the next few weeks followed by radiotherapy.

she is worried about hair loss as she has managed to keep her diagnosis private but she is concerned that hair loss will bring attention to her.

we are going to a wig specialist tomorrow, any advice or support would be greatly appreciated.

thank you xx

  • Hi Cara123

    Welcome to the Online Community.

I am sorry to hear of your Mum's cancer.

I hope that she is recovering ok from her surgery in November. I understand that it is a worrying time for you both.

I will pop a link to the Breast cancer forum as it may help to get advice and support from people who have gone through the same cancer and cancer treatment.

I can understand Mum's feelings about hair loss. I was the same in wanting to try to keep my cancer treatment more private. I also saw a wig specialist at my own hospital and they also had someone who could give advice on scarves and other ways to cope with hair loss.

In the end I opted to try scalp cooling and am glad that I did. It is not suitable for all regimes and all types of cancer however it may be worth considering as an option.

I wish your Mum well with her chemo when it starts. In the meantime do ask if there is anything that you or Mum need.

We do also have the Support Line available from 8am-8pm daily if talking to someone would help.
