Mum Has Skin Cancer Growth On Eyebrow

Hi everybody. I am new here and want to say how nice it is to become a member of this community.

My mum is 89 and has a skin cancer growth on her eyebrow. She has been to see an eye specialist and he advised surgical removal before it grows bigger and starts affecting her eye. He is especially concerned with it being so close to the eye, and so naturally my mum is very apprehensive and nervous about going for the local anasthetic and getting it removed.

I would therefore really appreciare some advice, comments etc. from other people on here who have either experienced a similar cancerous growth, or indeed know somebody who has, and has had the surgery.

My mum is constantly agonising over whether to go and have the surgery done, so naturally any advice anybody could give to alleviate her fears would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and having had skin cancer myself I know how worrying it can be.

The online community is divided into different support groups and there are two which cover skin cancer. I don't know if the eye specialist has said what type of skin cancer they think your mum has, but we have a melanoma group and also a skin cancer group for all other types of skin cancer.

To join whichever is the appropriate group, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'. You'll then be connecting directly with others who have had the same type of cancer that your mum has and who can share their experiences with you.

  • Thanks so much. I will join both groups.
