Immunotherapy and sever itching with rash

Hello, I’m new on here and looking for possible advice for my husband who has just had his third immunotherapy treatment, he’s on the one using the two drugs, the names of which escape me at the moment but I call them the ‘I’ drug and the ‘N’ drug.

He’s really suffering with severe itching along with a bumpy red rash and in addition, his skin is red hot and obviously all this prevents him sleeping. We’ve tried high dose antihistamines and are using cetroban cream and lotion which only seems to offer very short term relief.

I have bought a cooling mat from Amazon yesterday, which I placed from the fridge to just under his bottom sheet last night and it was great and cooled his back down but again, he was back to his usual routine of waking up at 2am burning up and so terribly itchy.

The oncology team have said that if he went on steroids that he may have to stop the treatment, which we don’t want to do, so if anyone out there has any experience of this, and found solutions, I’d be so happy to hear from you. Thank you all for taking the time to read my question.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

Your husband's itchiness sounds horrible but, as I didn't have immunotherapy, I don't have any experience with this.

The online community is divided into different support groups where you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as your husband and who would be able to share their experiences with you. Unfortunately, you haven't said what type of cancer your husband has so I can't give you a direct link to the right group. You could either let me know or take a look through this list.

Once you've joined the cancer specific group, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
