Ulcerated tongue

Hi, am new to group and seeking info/advice. The underside of my tongue started getting ulcers nearly 6 months ago and despite everything they have refused to heal. Was referred Ona 2 week pathway and have had a tongue biopsy about 10 days ago. Have heard nothing yet but although site of biopsy has nearly healed the ulceration actually looks worse. I am a little worried but am trying to stay positive that it is probably being caused by either medication or some form of infection. Looks like areas of red rawness with white bits also present. How likely is it to be cancerous due to the time that this has been present? GP doesn’t think it is medication related and dentists has checked my dentures and says the ulcers are not being caused by any rubbing with them.

  • Hi

    Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both informative and supportive.

    I think just about everyone here will recognize that waiting for results can be really difficult. Were you given any idea of how long you might need to wait?

    My expereince of cancer is via my wife whose cancer is very different so I cannot really give any comment on how likely or not this might be cancer. On the main site pages here if helpfully notes the things you talk about might be symptoms but that they can also be caused from other conditions.

    Hope you hear something soon;

    <<hugs>>

  • Hi. Was told about 3 weeks but may be longer. Have read quite a lot on this site about oral cancer. It’s a bit scary but I am still trying to stay positive that it is not cancer but medication related as, due to various conditions, I am on quite a lot at the moment.
