My wife has lung cancer!

Not a subject I would have thought of for 54 years of married life, but it happens. My wife, Margaret, had started complaining of a sore shoulder around October 2004. She went to the doctor, and he diagnosed arthritis and gave her cocodamol. The pain didn't ease, in fact it gor worse, so we went to a sports masseuse for a few weekly sessions, which, again, didn't help.

Then, in February last year, we were in Portugal, and the pain was so bad, we went to a clinic, where they did X-rays and a cat scan, only to find, she had a bulging disc.

In July, the pain was so bad I took her straight to A&E, and then our world fell apart. She was diagnosed with having Squamous cell carcinoma of the lung, which sat right next to her heart, making it inoperable.

Four chemo sessions over 12 weeks followed, and three weeks later, twenty sessions of radiography followed, finishing on January 19th.

So that's us, making the most of everything.

  • Hi

Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both informative and supportive.

I am Steve, one of the community champions and my experience of cancer is via my wife who has Leiomyosarcoma.

It sounds like you have both been through quite a journey, there are quite a few tales of routes to a diagnosis here and it can just show how sometimes it can be quite difficult. How is your wife now and also how are you?

New to the community is something of a welcome mat here, there are a number of other forums you might like to look at including Lung cancer forum and Family and friends forum .

You sound so positive with the idea of making the most of everything, I certainly hope you carry on in that frame.

    <<hugs>>

    Steve
