Hi all, My Dad has been diagnosed with metastatic prostrate cancer which has metasized to bone areas of spine and neck. He has received radiotherapy which has went well in regards to shrinkage of tumours. His last treatment was 3rd November.
Mid november he took really unwell with a chest infection which resulted in blood clots and enumonia in both lungs.
He was discharged from GRi on 5th Jan. This stay in hospital has taken it's toll on him and now he has very limited mobility in his legs.
We have had O.T teams from Glasgow visiting his home this week and have gave him various aids to help with his mobility.
One issue they cannot help with is installing a shower that he can properly get into and use. This is due to him being a non-council tenant.
The situation is that we as a family are not in a financial position to have the work needed by ourselves.
Can anyone suggest anything that we might be able to do to enable my Dad have a proper shower that he can access with a mobility chair.
Thank you in advance.
Jim
Hi Jim/Jimpyp and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I'm sorry to read that your dad has been diagnosed with metastatic prostrate cancer and is finding it difficult to access the shower.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the prostate cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as your dad and who may have encountered a similar problem..
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi Jimpyp
My mum had a fall so not the same i know but the social and oc had her shower room converted to a wet room, she isnt a council tennant. They do look into your finances to see if you qualify and in my mums case paid for some of it. You have to pay it back if you dont stay in the property for a certain time period after, i cant remember what that is as we just thought we would worry about that as and when. Dont know if thats any help or not. X
