Hello - My name is Martin. Two and a half weeks ago, I had a course of Radio Therapy for prostate cancer. One side effects has been bleeding in the bladder. Some of this might have been made worse because of having 2 large tumours removed in my bladder not very long ago. This in itself caused a lot of intermittent bleeding but the radio therapy certainly made it more prolonged. Another couple of side effects have been diarrhoea and later, the opposite effect of constipation. Also back ache.
Are these usual side effects? I thought the side effects had eased but unfortunately, the diarrhoea is now back along with a sore upper stomach. The medical staff at the hospital did mention that there could be a flare-up after some days bit I forgot to ask what form it can take and how long it can be expected to last? With thanks.
Hello Martin
I am Brian one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community. I am also in the 5th year of my personal Prostate cancer journey.
The Community is divided up into various cancer specific groups and I would advise you to join us on the Prostate Group where you will "meet" others on the same of similar journey - here's the link you need:
Once you click on the link and the page opens up, click on "join" on the black banner at the bottom of the page. Once you have joined the group you can introduce yourself in the "New Here - Say Hello" section. You can either copy and paste or repost your post above there - I can assure you of a warm welcome and plenty of replies.
The side effects you have mentioned are not the usual side effects of Prostate Radiotherapy and my first port of call would be to give your radiotherapy team a call and ask them for advice.
I hope the above helps and I look forward to "meeting" you again in our part of the Community.
Best wishes - Brian.
