Hi
My mum has just finished radiotherapy and I'd like to take her abroad for Easter. She isn't due to see the consultant until early March so she hasn't had the all clear yet - although we have our fingers crossed that the cancer has gone. Anyway, I've been struggling to find travel insurance and the only one I can find is quoting over £3,600 for annual cover. Can anyone recommend a good and reasonable travel insurer please?
Hi TraceyL and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and having had cancer twice, I know how tricky getting travel insurance can be.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join us over in the travel insurance group where you'll find lots of recommendations for travel insurers to try.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined have a look through the threads there called 'Recommended Travel Insurance' and Recommended travel insurance 2023-24', which you'll find on the first page. They are full of recommendations from other cancer patients who have got travel insurance.
You may find that it's easier to get reasonably priced single trip insurance, which is what I did initially. I've used goodtogoinsurance.com and payingtoomuch.com in the past.
Thank you for your advice - I really appreciate your quick response.
HelloTraceyL,
As latchbrook suggested, you should be able to find useful information on the travel forum.
I also had problems getting cover at a reasonable cost after treatment. Having seen a post on the travel forum at the time I tried albert&eddie which is a comparison site and part of the same group that owns Insurancewith and Holidaysafe amongst others. I received reasonable quotes from these and took out a worldwide annual policy with Holidaysafe which I've just renewed at the same premium as last year. They also do single trip of course if that's all you need.
As far as I recall it's usually necessary to wait for a while after treatments like radiotherapy so just be aware of that.
You can get a quote online but if you're uncomfortable with this it's best to 'phone them. If you're in any doubt how to answer any of their health questions it's always best to 'phone to make sure you're providing correct and full answers.
I hope you can get sorted.
