Just diagnosed today .

Hi all. Had a hysteroscopy in late November and got a text yesterday to say I had an appointment with the gynecology dept today. Knew it was going to be bad news, given the short time between the notification and the appointment. Seems I have grade 1 Endometrioid cancer. Next stage is MRI and CAT scans to see whether the cancer is localised or if it has spread. Treatment appears to be a hysterectomy. Just wondering if anyone knows what the prognosis would be if no treatment is undertaken ie if I don't have the hysterectomy? I have a progesterone coil fitted and wondered whether that, along with lifestyle changes (diet, exercise etc.) would help the cancer disappear on its own or, at least, delay any spread for some years to come.

I'm really not keen to have the operation, if it can be avoided, and, at 66, feel that I'm old enough to not worry about having time left. I've no kids to worry about. Any thoughts on not having a hysterectomy and just seeing what happens?

  • Hi  im sorry about your diagnosis. I have no experience or knowledge of your cancer and i feel its something you should discuss with your doctor. Obviously it is your choice as to what treatment you do or dont have but just wanted to say 66 isnt that old you have plenty of life left. Sending hugs. Xx

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I've had different cancer diagnoses to you I know how difficult it can be to make treatment decisions.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the womb cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as you.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • My heart goes out to you, it’s such a shock. It takes a while before you come to terms with it. I was diagnosed in Nov 24, had surgery, radio and now chemo and immunotherapy. It’s incurable for me now, but I bought a book by Dr Sam Watts called The Ayurvedic Approach to Cancer. It has changed my outlook and my perspective. It gave me back some power and control, but most of all a positive outlook which is so hard after your initial diagnosis. It’s designed to help you with lifestyle changes and diet .. alongside conventional medical treatments. My scans are stable and I feel great. I wish you well with whatever you decide.

  • Thank you. To be honest I wasn't really shocked. They sent me a text about an appointment for the following day so I knew it wasn't going to be good news. I'm quite pragmatic when it comes to life and death and, although people keep saying 66 isn't old, I feel I've had a fulfilled life and that this is just the next stage. I'm more concerned about having to make decisions ie should I have surgery or not. If the  cancer is slow and hasn't spread, should I just leave it be because I could get as much time as I would if I had it treated and I fear the treatment could leave me feeling worse than the disease will.  Once I've had the scans and know the extent of the problem I'll be better placed to make a decision.

  • That’s so good to hear. But you are right, I think you need to see what the whole situation is before you can decide. I really hope that it is localised and wish you all the best.
