hi all

joining the forum really as my mum has been on oral chemo for a while now, but is suffering from neuropathy in her hands and feet, in the form of numbness and lack of movement. Nothing we have tried seems to be alleviating the symptoms and it's getting her really down.

i suppose I wanted to understand if this is a common side-effect and what treatments have others tried with successful outcomes.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I'm sorry to read that your mum is experiencing neuropathy in her hands and feet. I had chemotherapy for breast cancer and, although neuropathy was a possible side effect of one of the chemos I had, I was fortunate not to experience it.

The online community is divided into different support groups so the best place to look for similar experiences to your mum's would be in the group for her type of cancer. Unfortunately you haven't said what cancer she's being treated for so I can't give you a direct link. You could either let me know, and I'll then give you a link, or you could take a look through this list and choose the appropriate one.

Once you've joined the group, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
