Scared after endoscopy results

Hi,

I'm just back from a planned endoscopy to check my gastric sleeved stomach, due to regurgitation and discomfort. They found a 'malignant looking tumour, approx. 2cm' in the first part of the duodenum and took several biopsies. They also have planned to do a CT scan and discuss the results at the MDT. Now, I'm a nurse so I know what they are suspecting here but, I'm clinging to hope that it is wrong after testing of samples - it did say on the paperwork 'if biopsies negative, for follow up endoscopy'. Should I still hold out hope that it may not be cancer after all from that line? I am terrified, I don't know how I will get through the wait for further tests and a definitive answer, I really don't.

Any words of advice, experience or in fact anything would be much appreciated please! I already have gone to the worse case scenarios in my head, not helped by my professional knowledge and experience, and of course Google. See no evil

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I haven't had the same investigations as you I know how scary the prospect of cancer is.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the duodenal cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have had, or are going through, the same investigations as you.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

While you're waiting for your results please try and stay away from Google. If you want to research the possible cancer that you have then stick to reputable sites like this one, Cancer Research UK, etc.

    Sending virtual (((hugs))))
