My daughter ( 60 years of ) went to bed as normal, woke up with massive swelling to face, within in five days diagnosed as unoperable lung cancer pressing on cava brain, stent hasn’t worked , couldn’t be done . She doesn’t ask her consultant much in way of questions ( just do as I’m told she says ) First chemo wasn’t to bad , second dreadful to point of the third being delayed. She’s so ill . I feel I’m the only one realising the severity, others saying, she’s strong, she can fight this. Drives me mad . She can’t, I know she’s terminal , but how long . Hate how people quote others saying so and so got thru it , she’s fine know. Well I don’t care about so and so, just my kid , is that abnormal ? Am I right in thinking in delaying chemo session will give the cancer chance to grow
I don’t know what I expect from this page, but need somewhere
thanks x
Morning! I understand you completely and can't help but I wanted to reply! It is not abnormal in any way, you are a Mum!
I've had bowel and liver cancer all diagnosed since June. My chemo starts on 22/12. I'm getting the "you are strong" & "but you look so well" messages and am pretty much the same, doing as I'm told, whilst smiling but extremely worried on the inside.
I can't answer about the delaying bit, but I trust the consultant/surgeon (I've no other option) and if they say it needs to be delayed, due to your daughter not being well enough to proceed, I think you have no option but to trust them.
Hope this helps xx
Thank you so much for replying , just chatting helps. I know my Jo is terminal even if she and rest of family don’t or won’t realise . It’s a heavy burden . I’m ok until I’m not? I wish you luck in your journey. I knew chemo was bad , but this bad ? It’s awful
Hi Judyl277454 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I've had different cancer diagnoses to your daughter I know how scared you're probably feeling right now.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the lung cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as your daughter and who can share their experience of delaying chemo.
I'm not sure from your post if you've been told she has incurable cancer or you're assuming it is because the tumour is inoperable. If she does have incurable cancer then another group which I think you'll find helpful is the supporting someone with incurable cancer group. If she hasn't had this diagnosis then you could join either the carers only group, if you're her primary carer, or the family and friends group if you're not her carer. All of these groups offer support to the person who has a loved one dealing with cancer.
To join any of the groups, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your daughter's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Morning! Thank you, I'm lucky, in that I have an excellent support network around me but do worry I can't keep up the SuperMum facade.
I think all you can do is keep strong for your daughter, Jo and hopefully she will see your excellent support. I wouldn't worry about the family, concentrate on you and Jo!
Oh and take care of you!
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
