Hi

My dad has been diagnosed with secondary liver cancer and we are waiting to find out where it started from and the next steps.  he has fluid in his stomach and his legs and feet are 3 times their size due to swelling.  His appetite is so small and what does not make him sick changes daily.  He is so tired and does not move from his chair unless to go to the toilet.  He does not go upstairs anymore and sleeps on a bed in the living room. He is constantly cod and shivering, but this has all happened within 6 weeks.  I am so scared about what the results will be and how long he has left.   He is in so much pain and discomfort its hard to see.   I don't know what i am asking with this but i just wanted to write it down and tell people who will hopefully understand how the waiting and the not knowing the future impacts your life and seeing someone who never really gets ill be like this is hard.  Thanks for reading.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I haven't had secondary liver cancer I know how a cancer diagnosis impacts the whole family.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the secondary liver cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have this..

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

Once you know what your dad's primary cancer is, you could also join the group for that as well by finding it in this list. Other groups which can support you as a family member are either the carers only group, if you are your dad's carer, or the family and friends group if you're not his carer.

Wishing you and your dad all the best
