Hi All,
Was diagnosed with Stage 3 Base of Tongue Cancer on 24th Sept. Completed my CT Simulation last week with mask build. Looking to start 35 cycles of Radiotherapy and 6 consecutive Chemo sessions late next week.
I have lived in Thailand for 4 years, but have been familiar with the country for nearly 20 years. All is either insurance-based or self-pay health care here for Expats.
So far, the health professionals have been fantastic procedurally, and I am now being seen at a local District specialised Cancer Hospital. The only thing that has been frustrating so far is the slight cultural & communication challenges. They all ask me if I have any questions at the end of appointments, but unless you know what to ask, I feel a little blind. So, I have joined this forum to find like-minded people who have experiences to share about their paths.
Top of my concern list at the moment is diet. I have lost 24Kg. I can only eat liquids, tea, thin soup, milk, ice cream, rice pudding, scrambled egg etc. Need others experiences of protein drinks/ shakes, etc.
Also, if anyone can signpost me to the right group to join in the community for my type of cancer.
Thank you in advance for your support, and wish you all the very best.

Most of us get Ensure or Fortisips liquid meal replacements prescribed. A good high calorie protein shake can be made with full fat milk/banana/avocado/peanut butter. You can add whey protein if you like too or substitute the milk with ice cream. Add the nut butter in small amounts last as the blender is running or else it will just stick to the blades.
If you are already finding eating hard and are losing weight make sure the hospital fits you with a feeding tube as it's only going to get worse. If you lose too much weight after your mask has been made it will become loose and the radiation will not be accurate. You will have to have a new one made. You need protein to heal from the damage the RT does and you need to be able to get pain relief into you by the clock for a good four to six weeks at least....often longer....So get that PEG fitted
