Two primary cancers at the same time

Hi everyone. I hope you’re doing well.

my mum has been diagnosed 5 months ago with two primary cancers, one in her lungs which is grade two and another one is a brain cancer grade four or GBM.
She is 76 years old, had a surgery on her brain back in June followed by radiotherapy in July-August. Now we are waiting for her MRI scan and appointment with her doctor at the end of November.
Lung nurse said that they won’t treat her lungs as her brain cancer is way worse.
Mum is doing ok at the moment but I’ve noticed that her memory is getting worse which means her brain tumour is growing.
Has anyone else been through similar situation and any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you

  • Hello, and a warm welcome to the forum, though I'm so sorry you find yourself here, and for what you and your mum are going through, my friend I too was diagnosed with 2 different cancers, but not your mum's, so I can't help. Though there are the Brain cancer and Glioblastoma brain tumour forums, which will hopefully help with your questions, and my very best wishes for the MRI and consultation.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m sorry to read that your mum has recently been diagnosed with two primary cancers and it must be an incredibly hard time for the whole family.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the brain cancer and lung cancer groups as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as your mum.

You may also like to join either the carers only group, if you are your mum's carer, or the family and friends group if you're not her carer. Joining these groups gives you the opportunity to talk to others who have a loved one living with cancer.

To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Your welcome my friend, anytime.
