Hi - has anyone any experience of actually having this done?
I have stage 4 Bile Duct Cancer that has metastasised to the peritoneum and I am looking to get this procedure done.
Hi CaptainHfdfd45 and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your diagnosis.
Navigating a cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked or are walking the ‘exact same' journey can help a lot. (I have a completely different cancer).
The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend that you look to join and put up your own post in our dedicated……..
…….. support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
To connect in with the group please click on the link above……. then once the group page opens you will see a [Black - Click to Join - Banner] at the bottom of the page, click in this box and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.
You can then introduce yourself to the group by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.
You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
The Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial/work guidance or just a listening ear.
Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.
Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
Hi, I had CRS surgery in February this year at The Christie’s Hospital in Manchester. It was for appendiceal tumour and part of my peritoneal was removed along with omentum. It was a long operation, 8 hours and recovery in ICU for 3 days before moving to the ward for a further 7 days. After the surgery a chemo bath is put into the abdomen for 90 minutes to kill any cancerous cells. The whole recovery process took about 3 months for me to feel fit again. All I can say is take one day at a time and do everything you are told to aid your recovery. If you need to know any other details then please ask.
Hi. Many thanks for this nod, it’s really useful. I am told this is not funded by the NHS. Did you self fund or was it covered by health insurance.
i will be self funding at the HCA in Birmingham
Can I ask if you are male or female as I am told it is possible for females depending on their cancer type.
Female, they do have a private section at The Christie’s as well. I can definitely recommend the hospital.
Thank you for that’s sorry for being intrusive. As a guy with stafe 4 BDC that metastasised to the peritoneum/omentum CRS / HIPEC is the next option but has to be self funded.
Sorry to hear that, I had appendix tumour which had metastasised to ovaries but had an hysterectomy first assuming it was the original site of cancer. Three months later I was having CRS and then 3 months of chemo, just had bowel obstruction in August from scarring, it has been one hell of a year! I hope all goes well with your surgery.
Thank you and good luck with everything going forward
best wishes
Peter
