Hi folks.

So i'm 3 years in from my diagnosis of a stage 2 Astrocytoma. Surgery went well in April 2023 then on to Radiotherapy then 6 months of Chemo. Such fun.

My brain tumor is an IDH Mutant tumor so i need to be monitored. Every 6 months i have an MRI and a consultancy appointment to keep an eye on things and so far so good. I know in time it will progress in to higher grades so just a waiting game. It feels like i walk around with my very own time bomb in my head.

Living my life in 6 monthly blocks is really odd and as much as i put on this facard that all is fine it's really not.

I guess it's the family you hide things from mostly. Married with 2 older children  i Just keep plodding on, Trying to work where i can. i do some laboring for a mate who pays me some cash in hand.

Life is just hard but i hate to moan about because everyone has thier own problems and really don't need to hear other peoples issues. Perhaps its a man thing. We tend to say we are just fine when really we are screaming inside.

Well this has taken about 2.5 years to write so sorry for it being a bit of a moan.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I've had different cancer diagnoses to you I know what it's like living in six month blocks.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the low-grade brain tumours group as you'll then connect directly with others who have a stage 1 or 2 brain tumour.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
