Secondary breast cancer

Hi

i I am new here, I was diagnosed in April of this year with secondary breast cancer which totally shocked me as I injured my back in November last year and thought I had broken my back, after having a MRI which showed shadows I had a ct scan which showed the same so had blood tests which were all normal, two different doctors done a thorough breast examination who couldn’t feel anything and I was told to be breast aware, I had my mammogram last year which came back as normal.

I had not heard anything from the hospital after four weeks so I contacted them to ask what was happening about me and after two weeks of contacting them i had a bone biopsy done on my hip in march and that came back as positive so was then given a mammogram which showed a small lump at the bottom of one of my breasts so had a biopsy which showed positive for breast cancer and has spread to my sacrum.

i am completely ok mentally just annoyed at how long it took for me to get a diagnosis and being told to be breast aware.

My son wants me to go on holiday with the family abroad but no travel insurance company will insure me just wondering if anyone knows of any travel insurance companies that would insure me.

So sorry for the long post.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and having had cancer twice, I know how tricky getting travel insurance can be.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join us over in the travel insurance group where you'll find lots of recommendations for travel insurers to try.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined have a look through the threads there called 'Recommended Travel Insurance' and Recommended travel insurance 2023-24', which you'll find on the first page. They are full of recommendations from other cancer patients who have got travel insurance.

You might also like to join the secondary breast cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have metastatic breast cancer.

When you have time, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
