Hi, my husband has been diagnosed with lung cancer stage 3c. Only symptom was a hoarse voice. He’s had radiotherapy but it hasn’t helped. They’re now suggesting chemotherapy and/or immunotherapy. It’s inoperable. He’s really not keen as doesn’t fancy the side effects. Says he’d prefer quality of life. Can anyone reassure him that it’s not so bad as he fears?
Hi MCL welcome to the forum, but sorry to hear about your husband. I am the community champ for the Lung cancer forum if you click on the link it will take you to the lung cancer forum where you will find lots of discussions on chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
I know chemotherapy sounds very daunting, but for many people it is much more manageable than they thought it would be. You are watched very closely and they give you anti sickness meds and steroids to help you through. It is often given before Immunotherapy which has become the wonder drug for many people with lung cancer, with many people who started in the same situation as your husband, now being told that there is no evidence of disease.
Of course it is your husband’s choice what he decides to do, but I think he needs more discussions with his oncology team before he decides.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
