  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I'm happy to help you find your way around if you'd like.

The online community is divided into different support groups and I can see that you've already found and joined the head and neck cancer group, which is a great place to connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as you.

When you feel ready, you can start a new post there in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

If I can help further just let me know.

  • Hi, Im Alice.  I have Ovarian cancer, diagnosed out of the blue in March 2024. I recently returned to work (Exec Assistant) in June of this year, went into remission 19 December 2024, best Xmas present ever.  My employer says I have to apply and be interviewed for a role and get it before I can move roles ie redeployment with the Company, large company, doesnt work where they can just transfer me into a different role.  They are making it very difficult for me  to do my job and now unfortunately my oncologist has said my cancer is slowly returning due to stress.   They have put me on an ill health capability procedure which should only have been invoked if I had no return to work date but I did but they still invoked it.  I feel that they are doing everything to get me to leave.  My question is Do they HAVE to move/transfer me in my condition due to redeployment  through ill health OR can they make me apply  for a role. They are saying redeployment doesnt work like that in theircompany

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the community to you too.

As someone who has/had cancer you are classed by law as disabled and, as such, you are protected from being discriminated against at work.

Macmillan has this information on work and cancer which you might find useful, and also this on cancer and employment rights.

    Wishing you all the best
