Hi all,
I'm new to this community, but not new to cancer. I've had papillary Thyroid cancer for 6 years - undergoing some kind of treatment or surgery pretty consistently. I've been told by my ENT, radiologist, oncologist, and nurses that this is a relatively easy to treat cancer. But honestly, after continued recurrence for 6 years, I'm wondering just how "easy to treat" this is.
My medical background as far as this goes is kind of a lot. I was first diagnosed when I was 21. I've had a partial thyroidectomy, thyroid completionectomy, neck dissection, and two round of radio iodine. And of course tons of scans, ultrasounds, and needle biopsies. Basically, at this point in time my thyroglobulin levels should be at a 0, but they're at a 28.2. Recent imaging has shown that nothing is in my neck, which means the cancer has drifted. Best case scenario is another surgery.
Really all I want to know is that I'm not alone. I feel like I'm the only with this type of cancer that's also behaving this aggressively. My doctors all seemed shocked that it's still hear - and I really don't like being a unique case. If anyone has had similar experiences with this type of cancer, I'd really love to hear from you.
Hi fairydustc372c9 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I'm sorry to read about the recurrences you've had.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the thyroid cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as you.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
