Hi there,

I am new here like a lot of people.
My dad about 3 weeks ago, found out he has lung cancer after some blood tests, x-ray and a CT. This was absolutely devastating for our family as you can imagine.
However, his breathing had been getting worse and after his biopsies got even worse. Myself and my sister were told to take him to the acute assessment in A&E last Thursday. Still there on Saturday, we got a call for the family to be with him. He had so much fluid around his heart (1.7litres), they thought he might die. He was taken away for emergency treatment to drain his heart. Thankfully he survived. Getting treatment for blood clots at the moment and on Friday we find out the full prognosis. My dad is 76 years old and was still active and was working until 3 weeks ago. We are a fairly small family so very close. Our poor mum is so lost right now because they are never apart.
This has happened so very quickly, I’m scared for my beautiful dad and mum. I’m trying to stay positive but looking at my dad ….Pensive

  • Hi

Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both informative and supportive.

I am Steve one of the community champions and my experience of cancer is via my wife who has Leiomyosarcoma so quite different to your dad.

It is very normal to feel scared at a time like this, your might like to have a look at our Lung cancer forum and perhaps also Family and friends forum where you may see others in a more similar situation.

Good luck with the appointment on Friday, do let us know how you get on.

    <<hugs>>

    Steve
