Hi, I recently was referred to the breast clinic after noticing what felt like a mass in my right boob, I'm 47 so never had a mammogram before after several pictures I was told that they had also spotted calcifications, I had a biopsy there and then and then told that the lump was cancer and that i needed a vacuum assisted biopsy for the calcifications which I have just had on Tues, 6 biopsies later and a battered boob. I now know that the lump is a non invasive, slow growing cancer however because of the calcifications, size of the mass and the fact I have small boobs i do need a mastectomy with reconstruction using a DIEP and so far no chemo as currently my lymph nodes are clear but they will remove them during the operation and check they are clear. This news was a lot better than I expected, I've just had my medical photos taken, im still very very sore and my boob is unrecognisable but I feel blessed that its a positive result in my eyes, I have a long recovery time as I've heard the operation is long so any advice, tips or on anything from anyone who has had a similar path would be really appreciated.
I have an appointment on Tues regarding the calcifications but im hoping I have a date for the operation also
Hi Ariellae0c649 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2022. I had a lumpectomy followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as you.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
