Hello everyone,

I had a total hysterectomy last Friday and I have started to feel empty inside, is this a normal thing to experience?

Who is the best person to talk to?

Thank you

  • Hi  and welcome to the community.

I have had different surgery for a gynaecological cancer, but it included a radical hysterectomy amongst other things, so I do understand the empty feeling inside in a physical sense.

You haven’t mentioned the reason for your hysterectomy, but on the assumption it might be because of womb cancer, I’d recommend you join the support group for womb cancer and post your question to the ladies there. This is the link here-

    Womb Cancer Forum

If you click on this link, it will take you to the group which you can join in the same way as you joined this one and ask your question. The lovely ladies there will be able to give you a lot of support and will want to help.

If it was due to another type of cancer, please let me know and I can direct you to the appropriate group. You can also call the support line (number is in my signature) where you can chat to someone about how you’re feeling and also get some input from one of the Macmillan nurses who can give general advice. They can also signpost you to different resources to get additional support with your feelings both mental and physical.

You are not long out of surgery, and emotionally and physically it is a lot to deal with, so please take things easy and look after yourself. Have you got support at home from a partner or family?

    Sarah xx
