Hi all

Not sure if I’m in the right place but here goes…

I’m 49 and I’ve recently been referred for a pelvis ultrasound after suffering from ongoing diarrhoea for around 6 months. I also have pain in my lower left abdomen, my tummy gurgles & bubbles constantly!  My GP has been brilliant & says I need the ultrasound & if nothing shows up I’ll be referred for a colonoscopy!

So basically I’m panicking that it’s something more sinister than IBS! I should probably stop googling my symptoms!

  • Hi  and welcome to the Macmillan Community but so sorry to hear about your ongoing challenges.

Navigating a health diagnosis journey can be such a stressful and challenging time….. I know this well as I have been on my cancer rollercoaster for over 25 years living with and being treated for 2 very rare types of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma's one being incurable…… but I am coming up to 10 years since my last treatments. I turn 70 in a few months and I am continuing to live a great life.

Google is not our friend during these times….. you can get a 1000 reply's and only a few will relate exactly to your situation…. Let’s face it, we don't have the skills and knowledge to be able to find the correct information…. all this does is ramp up the stress. So trust your medical professionals to do their thing and get the answers for you.

Over the past 10 years I have had a significant number of tests done looking at ‘other’ health issues….. some symptoms that are very similar to yours and nothing of significance has been found that needs any treatment and definitely no cancer was found.

Should you find yourself diagnosed with one of the 200 different types of cancer then the community is here to help you out.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms)………… so if you are actually diagnosed then have a look through this link Cancer Specific Groups where you will find all our dedicated cancer support groups listed.

These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from members who are navigating the exact same journey.

During this time ‘talking’ will help you so the Macmillan Support Line is here for you. It us open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support or just a listening ear.

Looking for you to get a clear diagnosis as to what is going on.
