Just joined this community so just posting this to say 'Hi'.

I was diagnosed with skin cancer (melanoma) back at the end of April, after a suspicious looking mole on the side of my head just got 'too suspicious' so I sought medical advice.

Two weeks ago I went back under the knife where they took a wider excision as well as removing a number of lymph nodes for a biopsy.

Surgeon said results should be back in two weeks which was last Friday.

Now the two weeks have come and gone I am struggling to concentrate on things at work as I am just sat watching and waiting for an email/phone call/notification from my NHS app.

How do people switch off from awaiting that call?

Thanks

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I was diagnosed with melanoma nearly 9 years ago.

It can be difficult waiting for results but I tried to keep myself occupied doing things that I enjoyed so that I didn't have time to think about the 'whats ifs'.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to suggest that you join us over in the melanoma group as you'll then connect directly with others who are also waiting for their results.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Thanks Anne.

Profile now added and I have joined the melanoma group as recommended.
