Please can anyone help me, my husband has low grade prostrate cancer and has been put on active surveillance the consultant has advised that this is very different from wait and watch. Every company that I have approached only accept watch and wait, or I am having treatment, treatment is ongoing. They also advise the declaration had to be accurate. No one accepts active surveillance, I am about to give up after hours on the phone. There must be hundreds of men in this same predicament. I am worried about giving inaccurate information and are just going round in circles even after using a broker that sent me to All clear. We would just like a break. Any help would be appreciated
Hello Yorks
I am Brian one of the Community Champions here on the online community, although I am so sorry to find you here. Travel insurance with cancer is sometimes almost impossible to find however we have a thread dedicated to this issue and the link to this is here:
Travel insurance forum for cancer patients
I have Stage 3 Prostate Cancer myself and in the last 4 years have used insurancewith (a company set up specifically for people with cancer)-have you tried them?
Whilst here I would also remind you we have a dedicated Prostate Cancer group and again, here's the link to help you find it:
We have plenty of community Members on the group who are on Active Surveillance - why not join the group and ask your specific question on the group - you are more than welcome.
I look forward to "meeting" you again on our little corner of the Community,
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi - so sorry that you are going through this. Sadly your experience isn’t common. I do not know how the companies I will suggest evaluate low grade surveillance but I found Insure & Go excellent. They were not cheap but they insured my husband who has stage 4 pancreatic cancer that has spread and they insured him with only 6 months life expectancy. When he got a blood clot the day before we were meant to fly they paid out as we obviously had to cancel the holiday.
Since then we have been abroad and although I couldn’t find any company to insure him, as he had less than 6 months life expectancy from the day he returns (this is their minimum requirement) - he officially only has 6 weeks but thankfully he is well and doing amazingly!
However, I booked an Airbnb & took their insurance by accident really as just thought - only £130 & it might help with something! I rang to check and they said it covered all people staying in the Airbnb & I didn’t need to declare any previous conditions! I told them of my husband’s prognosis anyway but they still said he was covered!! The actual company was Europ Assist. So perhaps these are 3 options to try……. Good luck x
