Following a bike accident i went to A and E where I had a CT scan. I was told that I had broken ribs admitted and transferred to a cardiothoracic unit. My pain was brought under control. The next day I was told that a subplueural mass 33mm by 42mm had been identified in mid lobe of right lung which was pushing into the anterior chest wall. They told me I was being directly referred to the NHS cancer pathway. This is obviously a shock.
My question is how long should I wait before chasing this referral? I understand it should be seen and diagnosed within 30 days but I am worried that the system will lose me and every day counts.
Who should I chase, the referrer, or my GP?

Hi Pimpernel
I hope you are recovering from your accident but sorry to hear you may need further treatment. I would find out the name of the consultant/department from whoever referred you and chase them up if you haven't heard in two weeks. I was referred on the urgent pathway and my appointment was downgraded as routine by a clerk so I had to chase.
Sadly the "two weeks" is taking much longer these days
