Hi, I'm 42, and navigating suspected Ovarian cancer, I have a large complex, sinister cyst, 19cm by 18cm, I don't have alot of information currently, I'm due to see specialists on Wednesday, but after a panel review of the scans and bloods, scans showed the large cyst, and 3 fibroids, ca125 level is extreamly raised, but they cannot give a difinitive answer they have proposed the way forward is a full hysterectomy including appendix, it will will then be tested which could incure chemo afterwoods. It's all come as a huge shock, I guess I'm asking if anyone has or is going through similar, what was recovery like from a full hysterectomy?, any advice or info, is appreciated.

  • Hi Betty, I’m in a similar position to you. I’ve just turned 45 and been going to my doctor for a couple of years now and been fobbed off with gynae issues. Then I noticed a lump in my pelvis - again fobbed off. At Christmas went back as I was struggling to bend. They sent me straight to hospital with suspected large fibroid. After pelvic ultrasound was sent home. I pushed for a private referral and again still thought it was a fibroid. Expected a full hysterectomy. Sent for MRI which showed suspected cancer deposits around my pelvis. Then had CT and now biopsy as it’s spread to my peritoneum. Currently waiting to be graded this wed but I know it’s really serious. I’ve been told no op until they can shrink/remove some of the spread with chemo.
regarding the op - I was in hospital last week for my biopsy and the lady opposite me had just had her full hysterectomy the day before, performed by my consultant. I was amazed at how well she looked. She was up and showered and told me she was only taking paracetamol. This really gave me a lot of hope even if my surgery might be more complex. Both ladies told me there is a spinal anaesthetic which allows for faster recovery.  The hospital have you up and walking the next day.

Fingers and toes crossed for you that the test come back clear. CA125 can be raised with fibroids.

    Best wishes
