My dad has mastatic stomach cancer he had 6 month chemotherapy then a shot of radiotherapy he was offered secondary chemo but said no then 3 weeks ago he has been offered immunotherapy which he has agreed to have however this is to help treat his symptoms and maybe prolong life for a few weeks he has stopped eating and lost over 4 st in weight he is only having porridge for breakfast then either a fortisip drink or a cuppa soup he is sleeping for a couple of hours awake for maybe half an hour then falling back to sleep for another couple of hours he’s not in any pain just very weak and deteriorating quite quickly he’s meant to start immunotherapy next week but I’m not sure it will benefit him at this stage I feel hopeless and useless I know he’s dying I just don’t know what to do he is capable of eating but refuses saying he can’t taste anything so won’t even try anything no matter what suggest in March he was given 5-6 month but I feel he’s going to go to bed one day and can’t get out of it I’m just wondering if this is normal in his position I just don’t know what to do

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I didn't have the same type of cancer as your dad I know how difficult a cancer diagnosis can be for the whole family.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the stomach cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
