Hi I’m new to the group well I found out on Wednesday I have thyroid cancer, the bit I wanted to ask about is how did you find out??? I was looking on my NHS app and it was on there! I didn’t have a dr tell me, I ended up having to ring my doctor to hear it from his mouth. Now am I right in being upset that I found out through an app??
Hi PrincessZ and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and although I was diagnosed with different cancers to you I was told in face-to-face appointments. I think that the NHS app is both a blessing and a curse. It's good because you can see information immediately without having to wait for an appointment but it's a curse because the information is on there before the doctor has had chance to tell you in an appointment. I think the app starts with a warning something along the lines about seeing information that you might not have been told about yet.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the thyroid cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
