Grieving, Lost, and Needing Support After My Husband’s Passing

I’m not even sure how to write this, but I need support.

I recently lost my husband to stage 4 colorectal cancer that had spread to his liver. We had been through so much together. Even now, I still can’t believe he’s really gone.

It was his wish to go abroad and see his family, and we did that. Sadly, he passed away while we were there.

We have a 4-year-old daughter who was incredibly close to him. He was the one who looked after her while I was working. She’s been having emotional crises the last few days, asking for him—and I don’t know what to say or how to help her. I’m completely lost.

I can’t work right now, I don’t know how I’m going to manage, or even what to do next. I’m trying to be strong for my daughter, but I feel so broken inside.

If anyone has been through something similar or has advice on how to cope, support a grieving child, or find help—please let me know. I’m reaching out because I don’t want to face this completely alone.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but I am ever so sorry to hear about your husband, my heartfelt condolences to you all.

This can be such a challenging and stressful time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' journey can help you a lot.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our dedicated……

    Bereaved Spouses and Partners

……. support group where you will connect with a wide range of members navigating the exact same challenges.

To connect with a group click on the “Bold Italic Links” I have created above …… then once the group page opens click in the [Black - Click to Join - Banner] that appears at the bottom of the page and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.

When you are ready……. you can introduce yourself by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.

You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

The Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides practical information, emotional support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow 3 working days for a reply.

Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community ((hugs))
