Hi all,

My ex Husband was diagnosed with cancer 10 years ago with life expectancy of 6 months to 1 year.

He has survived all this time but sadly he is now near to end and in hospital.

He does not talk very much and it may now have gone to his brain.

We share a vulnerable 21 year old daughter and she is his next of kin but as I am her carer I have now taken on this responsibility for her.

Macmillan have helped my ex husband in the past and given him great support. Unfortunately i was not involved in any of this due to him being able to converse and attend appointments and basically look after himself.

To cut a long story short, where can I go now for support/help and guidance for him?

I can only visit him with our daughter 1 - 2 times per week due to the distance of the hospital. He has a brother and sister but they live in Denmark and Spain and reply on me for most of the info and updates from the hospital.

The hospital are not forthcoming with his updates and I spend hours on the phone trying to engage with them to give me updates but it is a struggle.

Can Macmillan help at all? thank you

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

It sounds like you're going through a very difficult time at the moment.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the supporting someone with incurable cancer group, which is a great place to ask your questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

You could also give the Macmillan Support Line a call on 0808 808 0000. It's free to call and they're available every day of the week from 8am to 8pm

    ((hugs))
