Waiting for official diagnosis

Hi. I've joined because I'm on the 2 week suspected cancer fast track. I tick every box for endometrial and colon cancer (possibly have lynch syndrome, family history of the same cancers) and my blood results are not looking good. I have other symptoms so I'm sure it's spread. How do you cope with the waiting? I have 2 young kids and I'm literally dizzy with worry, feel like I could pass out. I don't know what to do, obviously it's all I can think about. I try so hard to act normal for my kids and partner but trying not to break down is so hard. Forcing my tears to stay in is getting harder. I'm going to work, doing all the normal stuff but my chest feels like it's going to explode every minute. How do you do this, how do you stay strong? You are all so brave I just can't comprehend how you've all coped I'm a wreck

  • Hi everyone, I am the same, I’m on 2 week wait for colonoscopy. I was told I had chrons, then day after my fit test had a positive result. So not sure what to think now. I have 4 children and am a single mom, I feel so sick all the time with tummy pain and have lost 5 stone in weight over a year, so bit worr Now

  • It's so scary isn't it I can't keep still my whole body is shaky with fear. I can say with certainty I know how you feel. I wish I had something positive to say for us but unfortunately I'm just filled with dread. Sorry not helpful I know but you have my best wishes

  • Hi  and  and welcome to the Macmillan Community but so sorry to hear about your challenges.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms)………… so If you care to have a look through this link Cancer Specific Groups you will find all our dedicated cancer support groups listed.

These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from members who are navigating the exact same journey.

To join a group have a look through the LIST above and once you find the support group for your cancer type....... click on the link and when the group page opens you will see a [Black - Click to Join - Banner] at the bottom of the page, click in this box and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.

When you are ready……. you can introduce yourself by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.

You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

The Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow 3 working days for a reply.

Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.

  • Hello Livinginhope 2025,

I feel for you. This waiting period is almost too much to bear.

I had to learn to let the tears fall sometimes. And to choose a couple of people to talk to right away. For me a free meditation App that I could access any time, anywhere, helped to stop those thoughts and breathe, if only for 5-10 minutes at a time.

  • It really is and knowing it could get worse makes it seem impossible to cope. I broke down today with my partner, thankfully my eldest didn't see. Thank you I'm willing to try anything so I'll give that a go
