Just lost my wife. Didn't think it would happen twice

I just lost my wife to ovarian cancer 10 days ago, after many ups, but mostly downs, since her diagnosis in Nov 2021. She fought to the end and, although it was obvious towards the end just how ill she was, she had stipulated at the beginning of her treatment that she didnt want any bad news, so neither she nor I were ever formally told the extent of her illness. We have 3 children together between 16 and 21, and I have an older boy with my previous partner who also died with cancer (osteosarcoma)back in 1997.

Life seems very unfair right now. I don't know what I'm expecting from being here on this forum, but I just felt the need to write it down as I find it almost impossible to speak about it at the moment. Sorry for rambling, I hope you can make more sense of it than I can.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your wife, my sincere condolences,

I have not been in your situation, but I can only imagine how challenging and stressful this time can be…… but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' journey may well help you a lot..

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you look to join and post in our…….

    Bereaved Spouses and Partners Group

    ……. support group.

This group is a safe place to talk to others who are navigating the same journey.

To connect with a group click on the “Bold Italic Link” I have created above …… then once the group page opens click in the [Black - Click to Join - Banner] that appears at the bottom of the page and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.

When you are ready……. you can introduce yourself by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.

You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

The Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides practical information, emotional support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
