Morning, well where do I start !! How is it possible to have this happen?

In October my twin brother (we are 55) called my sister and I from USA to tell us he had prostate cancer, once after the initial shock had passed he was lucky he opted for the surgery we flew out to visit all is good and he is cancer free Pray

In February after going on holiday with my sister and our best friend,y sister had a cough that she couldn't shake off, she had xrays steroids antibiotics nothing seemed to work. Then she was given the diagnosis of terminal lung cancer, treatable not curable with a possibility of 12/18 mths ideally. She had a 3 month treatment plan starting with chemo and then immunotherapy. She is now under MacMillan with a possible 3-4 wees, she was given this devastating news on 13/05 as I was diagnosed an hour earlier with breast cancer. My heart is breaking and I have so many emotions, my sister is my life she is strong and confident and the positive attitude one. I want to be with her 24/7 ,but she has a partner who is amazing, I know it's selfish but I always thought I'd be the one looking after her!!  I just feel pushed out, she would be the one supporting me through my diagnosis and looking after me I just want to do the same. HELP I'm losing my head.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I'm sorry to read how much cancer has impacted the lives of you and your family recently. Great news about your brother now being cancer free but I can understand how heart broken you must be feeling at the prospect of losing your sister on top of your own cancer diagnosis.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the supporting someone with incurable cancer group, where you could ask how others have broached the subject of being more actively involved with the care of a loved one.

For support with your own cancer diagnosis can I recommend that you join the breast cancer group which is a great place to asl questions, share experiences and get support.

To join these groups just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
