Hi,

My partner has just been diagnosed currently in hospital in Spain waiting to be repatriated. I live here but am obviously going with him but I don't know where to start. Anyone know how long they will have him in hospital before he can go home for outpatient treatment and does anyone please know if there is any government financial help.

Thank you.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m sorry to read that your partner is currently in hospital having been recently diagnosed with lung cancer.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the lung cancer group, which is a great place to ask your question about how long he is likely to be in hospital for.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you say "is there any government financial help" I presume you're talking about benefits if he is unable to work. Macmillan has this information on understanding benefits and your partner could also speak to the Macmillan Money Advice Team by phoning +44 207 091 2230. The phone number is not free when phoning from abroad, but they can be reached from Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm.

It would be great if you could put something about your partner's diagnosis and into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
