Hiya,
Im so grateful this place is here. Thank you.
i have a white lump, not sore particularly, lateral base of tongue, left side and further red kind of patches behind it.
Thia might sound weird but my tongue, as it begins to go down my throat, feels sort of thick.
i can swallow but sometimes it takes an effort to gulp the food down. Wine and beer, thankfully, no problem. And water, obviously.
I don’t know how to feel about. I’ve just started a new teaching job in a school I love and I’m anxious about how a positive for cancer might affect me re time off.
There’s a part of me in complete denial, there’s nothing wrong with me. And another part that just sort of knows.
Two week wait and trying not to catastrophes.
I live in Essex.
Thank you xx
Hi Kirsten,
I know that feeling of dread and "just know". However, don't jump the gun just yet. There are so many things this can be and until you have been actually diagnosed, following testing, you cannot be sure. I have had "I just know" moments that have been justified, but also a very big "just know" moment that turned out to be nothing of the kind!!
I know the two week wait is a nightmare....try to focus on other things as much as you can and let yourself enjoy little things such as perhaps a few treats.
Even if it does turn out to be something concerning, treatment doesn't necessarily mean that you will have to take loads of time off work. There are almost as many different treatments as there are individuals, as everyone has their own treatment plan and trajectory.
Other possible causes might be things like a fungal infection, a reaction to medication, and any number of other conditions. So whilst it may be sinister, equally it may not.
For now, keep on the denial route. That may help stop you worrying excessively. And if you can manage to not worry so much, it will prevent your sleep and your life being badly impacted at this stage. Two weeks will actually pass very quickly, and then you should have some answers and then know what you may or may not have to face.
Sending you hugs

Was it your GP or Dentist who referred you.
Maite is right, it could be any number of things. The most common ones are Lichen Planus and trauma from a tooth rubbing. 90% of referrals are not cancer so fingers crossed.
Just click on the link I made and come over to see us.
