I've just been diagnosed with stage 1, struggling to deal with this and the anxiety. Any help on timescales would be appreciated, does anyone know if it's worth paying private ?

Ive been told I need to get my lymph nodes checked, how do they do this ? And does anyone know how long it is from hospital referral until Christie's contacts you ?

Also how do they say it's stage 1 if other checks haven't been done yet, does this mean it can change ?

Any help would be lovely, really worried x

  • Good morning I have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. I feel scared and alone at times. Have been told I need a stoma fitted and then chemo and an operation. I feel tired all the time and my legs ache like I have some sort of flu like symptoms. The waiting for dates of treatment is the worst part.  Keep reaching out.

  • Thanks for the reply it's horrible, I can't really afford to go private but I'm hearing delays in nhs waiting lists and cancer doesn't wait for you to have treatment. Let's hope we get the news quickly.

  • I've taken to writing things down my thoughts feelings in the form of a poem. Helps a little. I will contact macmillan today for a chat by phone. Please do the samr

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

I do see that you have already joined and put up a post in our dedicated…..

….. support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

The Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial/work guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow 3 working days for a reply.

Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

    All the very best.

  • Thank you for your response it's all a tad confusing at the moment

  • Yes I know the feeling…… come this Saturday it will be 25 years since I was first diagnosed with an 8 in a million rare incurable type of Lymphoma!!….. but there was no Google and definitely no Online Community’s like this one……

I was then diagnosed in late 2013 with a second even more rare 4 in a million type of Lymphoma and that was when I found this Community.

Talking with others who are or have navigated the same journey can help you get control of the noise between your ears so do get yourself plugged into the….
