Hi All,

I live with my mum who was diagnosed with lung cancer last summer and is receiving palliative care only.  I am helping and doing my best to be supportive for my mum.  I am less social, have anxious moments and I am trying to manage my mind but have emotional wobbles - anxiety and upset.  I do have a brother who is not interested in helping but I try to be non judgemental towards him.

I working for a wonderful company who are very supportive and I have had cried a few times at work because of the overwhelm of what I am going to.  It is a lonely experience but I am there for my mum, doing the right thing.

I hope have articulated my words and I have so much to say...

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I was the one with cancer I know how a cancer diagnosis affects the whole family.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the supporting someone with incurable cancer group which is a great place to connect with others who have a loved one receiving palliative care. You can discuss your emotions and worries, as well as practical issues, and give and receive support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  •  Thank you for taking the time to reply to me, I appreciate it.  I have joined the group you have recommended.

This community is already making me realise that I am not the only one and I am not on my own.
