Second opinion

Should I get a second opinion about my operation for ovarian cancer if it wasn’t done by an oncologist surgeon? I’m beside myself that he left cancer inside and didn’t do a total debulking surgery . I can see now the importance of that but at the time I didn’t have the information I have now as the op was urgent and I just wanted it out . Will a second surgeon onc even entertain doing this for me ? I’m asking my doctor this week for a referral .. how should I word it without sounding like I’m complaining . I live in a small community and am aware of everyone knowing each other . I’m desperate for help . I’m onto my third chemo this week and feeling like it’s all for nothing , can chemo even shrink cancer left in on rectum and omentum ?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community.

As you see the Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) and I can see that you have already joined and posted in our dedicated Ovarian cancer support group

This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

The Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial/work guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow 3 working days for a reply.

Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
