Hi Mwmac93 and welcome to the Macmillan Community but so sorry to hear about your ongoing diagnosis. Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time
A raised lymph-node in the neck indeed anywhere in the body can be the result of an infection or illness….. but it can be a pointer to some type of cancer….. but this happens across many different cancer types.
What department was the consultant in?
The Community is actually divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms)………… so if you are actually diagnosed with a cancer you can have a look through this link Cancer Specific Groups you will find all our dedicated cancer support groups listed.
These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from members who are navigating the exact same journey.
The Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support or just a listening ear.
Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community or just want to chat.

Hi again Mwmac93 do follow up on my friend Beesuit suggestion to have a look in our Head and Neck group.
As for me, I have been on my journey with 2 very rare types of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphomas for over 24 years….
A lump in the neck can often be a sign (Symptom) of one of the over 60 different types of Lymphoma.
Indeed, back in late 2013 it was an ENT consultant who arranged for a surgical biopsy to be done in my ever increasing mass on my neck…… confirming my second type of Lymphoma.
Let’s look for answers soon and as always, my hope is that this turns out not to be a type of cancer.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
