Hi all.

It's coming up 2 years since I lost someone so so close to me, she was my rock someone I could go to about anything like a personal diary. Just someone always there. I still feel numb and no emotion is this normal? I wonder how am I able to over come this as i don't want to feel this way no more and I know she wouldn't want me to but I feel like I block it out every time and push it to the back of my mind as I'm scared to think about it too much incase I crumble.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Community.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend….. this can be such a challenging time.

I have been on my incurable cancer journey for 25+ years and back in 2014 I lost 2 very good friends to their cancers….. a few months before they both passed we sat in our lounge with a glass of good single Malt Whisky in hand and agreed that the last man standing would live a full and happy life in memory of those who had gone…… and I continue to do this.

I am rather sure that your friend would rather you celebrate their memory and you get on with living - life is short.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I highlight our dedicated…….

Bereaved Family and Friends Support Group.

……. support group where you will connect with a wide range of group members navigating the exact same challenges.

To connect with the group click on the “Bold Italic Links” I have created above …… then once the group page opens click in the [Black - Click to Join - Banner] that appears at the bottom of the page and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.

When you are ready……. you can introduce yourself by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.

You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

The Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides practical information, emotional support or just a listening ear.

Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community ((hugs))
