5 Year Check up

Hello, I am new to this group and would like to ask for some advice please. I had Surgery and Chemo for stage 3 Bowel Cancer in 2020. I was due to have my final 5 year check ups in March this year. However in August 2024 I moved house to a different county. My new GP told me that my previous Specialist should be the one to transfer me to my new local hospital. I have contacted my specialist Nurse in the previous Hospital, along with Oncologist and Consultant and everyone I have spoken to said that the new GP should do it. The new GP is adamant that's not the case. So I am being batted back and forth and not being helped. I don't know what to do next. If there is anyone who may have had a similar experience and can give some advice to how to resolve my problem I would be very grateful.Thank you so much.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community. When I changed consultants and hospitals, my existing consultant wrote to the consultant he was recommending that I see asking if she would accept me as a patient. I don't know if that's the normal way things are done but that's what happened for me.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the bowel cancer group, which is a great place to ask your question, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Thank you so much latchbrook, That's very helpful. I'll try contacting my Consultant again tomorrow. Thank you for the tips on how to navigate the group too.
