Hi everyone,
I joined the group today. My husband was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer back in 2019. He was on 3 monthly prostap HRT injections since then. And since his initial chemo and radiotherapy his PSA has been undetectable 0.01 and still is to this day. However following waterworks issues last autumn and a turp in November, in January we were told the cancer has progressed into the bladder. He is currently on abiraterone and olaparib since January although he is on a break from olaparib due to extreme fatigue. In the last month he has been in hospital twice with haematuria and has had to have bilateral nephrostomy. He has recently been sent home from hospital with a catheter which fills with blood every day. I hope the bleeding stops soon as he is due to have the catheter out in 7 days. We understand the bleeding is from the tumour and possible damage caused by the radiotherapy he had in the early days of the disease. Is anyone else going through similar?
Hi Bernie34, and a warm welcome to the forum, though sorry to see you here. I have similarities to your husbands journey, my friend, advanced prostate cancer for 3 years, prostap and RT,along with aTURP, incontinence issues, frank haematuria, bladder involvement, bleeding at times due to radiation damage, namely Telangiectasia, and fatigue. The bladder damage, Telangiectasia can take some time to heal, mine took nearly 2 years, but the haematuria usually heals much quicker, mine took just over a week and though you don't want either of them, next to cancer they are a small problem, which almost always resolves itself, I'm sorry your dealing with bladder involvement as well as a nephrostomy, as my bladder cancer was taken care of by RT, no nephrectomy, though I understand bleeding is not uncommon for a few days or occasionally longer, it's not for me to say. I can say is even a small amount of blood looks a lot in urine, please keep your team up to date with all your concerns my friend, and I see you've joined the prostate forum, but haven't posted on there yet, they are a wonderful bunch of guys and girls, who will be happy to share their experiences and knowledge, offer you support and friendship and help make this journey a little easier for you, I hope to see you there soon, my best wishes for your treatment,
Eddie
Good Morning Bernie (Bernie34)
Another warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community from me - although I am so sorry to find you here.
As Eddie (eddiel) has said, you have joined the Prostate Group - please do add a post there, I can assure you of plenty of replies for the group as they are all happy to help.
Reading your post I see there may be bladder involvement and here's a link to the bladder group-
I do hope this helps and if I can do anything else for you please do let me know.
Best wishes - Brian.

Brian thanks so much for your supportive and helpful response. I'll do as you suggest with those forums. I am grabbing a few minutes each day to myself. It can be so isolating spending so much time at home that it's a joy to speak to others going through a similar journey.
Good Afternoon Bernie (Bernie34)
It's not a problem, You are among friends here who have "been there, done that". We all have travelled our own journey and between us have the knowledge to help and support others who are in the same or similar situation we have been in.
We all have that same "bond" cancer and are happy to help. If you click on my name or avatar you van see just where I have been in the last 3.5 years.
I look forward to "meeting" you again over in the Prostate group.
Best wishes - Brian.
