Am I being paranoid?

Hi everyone I’m new to this and wanted advice. So I don’t know if I’m being paranoid and overthinking it but will tell you my story. I am a 50 year old female and had a hysterectomy back in 2014 due to a very large fibroid. Anyway the last year or so I have been having issues with my bladder constant trips to the loo, pressure pain when I go etc. last September I had noticeable blood in my urine so my doctor said it’s a UTI and prescribed antibiotics, however this was still happening and she dip tested and sent of samples that came back with blood in my urine. She referred me for a scan and that showed an incidental finding of an ovarian cyst on my left ovary. Apparently it was in my notes from when I had an mri in 2021 when my appendix ruptured. I didn’t know about this cyst but was reassured everything was fine and sent on my way. 3 hours later I had a call from my gp saying I’m being referred for a ca125 blood test and to see a gynaecologist and another scan. My notes came up with having suspicious gynaecological cancer. I had the ca125 blood test it was normal range 2nd scan showed nothing different from last one. I met with the gynaecologist in January and he said it looks like the symptoms are to do with perimenopause and I’m not producing enough estrogen but wanted me to go for an mri. The mri came back with me also having a cyst on the left ovary as well at 6cm and it has an abscess he said it was pelvic inflammatory disease and put me on strong antibiotics. I’m still have chronic abdominal pain, bloating and feeling nauseous a lot and still urgent trips to the loo as my bladder feels like it’s going to pop. The first scan showed bladder and kidneys were fine. The cysts were malignant apparently. I finally had my appointment with a female gynaecologist today and she did a tvs it showed right cyst has got a bit smaller but left still 6cm and she’s put me on the waiting list to have a laparoscopy and referral regarding bladder. I’m so confused on what’s going on with me and deep down a have a gut feeling it is ovarian cancer. Some days I can’t even get out of bed due to abdominal pain I have had to stop working at the moment as well because of this. Has anyone been through a similar experience and turned out it was cancer or am I just worrying to much and being paranoid. My daughter is 29 and she was diagnosed nearly two years ago with myeloma so I have her to worry about atm as well. Sorry for the rambling on .

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I haven't had the symptoms you describe but I know how worrying it is when you're going through tests to find out what wrong.

The online community is divided into different support groups and as you've mentioned gynaecological cancers I'm going to recommend that you join the womb cancer and ovarian cancer groups where you can discuss your symptoms with others who may have experienced similar.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your tests to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
