Hi,
I’m new this group and was wanting so help to understand my diagnosis.
I recently had a mastectomy and a sentinel lymph node biopsy.
I was informed that the cancer was removed and hadn’t spread and the only treatment needed was the medical menopause to prevent the breast cancer returning.
Today I have been reading through information sent to my GP and it states the diagnoses is: "symptomatic breast cancer 18mm grade 2 invasive lobular carcinoma. 1/1 axillary lymph node micro metastasis only".
When researching the "1/1 axillary lymph node micro metastasis only" I’m finding information that the breast cancer has spread to the lymph nodes but only a small area is this correct?
Hi Debra4 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022.
When I had my lumpectomy 2 sentinel lymph nodes were removed. The surgeon reported that she had got clear margins on the lump but that of the 2 lymph nodes one had micro deposits of cancer cells so I had an appointment with the oncologist. He said that some oncologists count this result as a 'clear lymph node' and don't even offer chemotherapy but he was happy to approve chemotherapy if I wanted to have it, but that I didn't have to have it. I hope that made sense!
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
