Knowing not a lot

Hey, I found a lump and saw my GP, referred and attended clinic on my own naively believing it was nothing, left after a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsies being taken from my breast and lymph nodes. I have no clue how big it is, just that it is likely to need treatment. I'm in the waiting phase, have 2 weeks to wait and I'm just numb. I'm avoiding looking at it, touching it it's like it isn't part of my body. I lost my dad suddenly 5 months ago so it just feels like the universe has it in for me. I feel nothing which is strange, isn't it?!

  • Hi IvyK

I don't think feeling nothing is strange, it's how I am keep waiting for the feelings to come but it's been over a year now for me. I assume its my way of coping and maybe yours too. X

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022.

I wouldn't say that feeling nothing is strange as we all react differently and there's no right or wrong way to feel.

The online community is divided into different support groups and I can see that you've already found and joined the breast cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

Once you've joined you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
