My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell lung cancer and secondary liver cancer which has also spread into a few nodes. He had his liver biopsy done on 3rd Feb and although they have been able to test it and tell us its stage 4, we are still waiting for the hospital to carry out two further tests before they will even consider what treatment to start him with. The waiting is agonising and we were told we would only have to wait 3 weeks after the liver biopsy to find out about treatment. Is this normal for them to take so long to complete the tests? My dad is raring to go with treatment and we have called to speak to the nurse but were told to wait for two final tests to be done. We all feel helpless waiting around and can’t quite believe that with stage 4 lung cancer we are still waiting for treatments! It’s heartbreaking and frustrating
Hi Splash and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I know how frustrating waiting for the results of tests and biopsies can be. However, as everyone's treatment plan is tailored to their results and circumstances it's very important for your dad's cancer team to have all the information before they decide on the correct treatment plan for his cancer.
The online community is divided into different support groups and I can see that you've already joined and posted in the lung cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.
It would be great if you could put something about your dad's diagnosis and his tests to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
