It's just been confirmed that my mother in law has Stage 4 Cancer. Histology confirms a nodular melanoma (removed) classified as pT4b. We are now waiting for an appointment with an Oncologist to discuss "what happens next". We were not completely surprised but then again, how advanced it is, has hit us. We suspect that a lot of the questions going around in our head won't be answered until we've seen the Oncologist. At the end of the day I just want to be as tooled up as I can be to support my wife and my mother in law in the challenging time ahead so any words of wisdom or useful signposting will be welcome. Thanks

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m sorry to read that your moth-in-law has been diagnosed with melanoma but it's great that you want to be able to support her.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join both the melanoma group, which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who have melanoma, and the family and friends group, where you can find out how others support a loved one through a cancer diagnosis as well as receive emotional support yourself.

To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your mother-in-law's diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
